How does a 4x3 board work?
There are nine words and four groups of three. One word, the shared word, belongs to all four groups, so each group is the shared word plus two others. After you solve a group, every later group has to reuse exactly one word you've already solved.
How do I find the shared word?
Look for the word that fits more than one idea: a word with several meanings, or one that joins other words, like FIRE in FIREFLY and CAMPFIRE. Once you've solved two groups, the shared word is the one they have in common.
How do the hints work?
Each tap shows one more. Hint 1 tells you how many arrangements still fit. Hint 2 points at the shared word. Hint 3 gives you one group. Hint 4 shows the whole board.
How does it narrow things down?
A board can be arranged 945 ways: nine choices of shared word times 105 ways to pair the other eight. Each correct group you mark leaves fewer arrangements; two correct groups leave three, and three leave one. Wrong guesses and a known shared word rule more out.
